Located within an operating plant, the aging and outdated original plant buildings had outgrown their usefulness. In May 2000 McColman & Sons Demolition was selected as Prime General Contractors to perform turn key solutions to hazardous goods removal, soil remediation, stack implosion, plant demolition, and site remediation complete with new vegetation. In approximately 6 months of on site performance McColman & Sons Demolition completed all tasks without any lost time incidents.

Dismantling of two fuel oil storage tanks 60' x 160' in diameter. These tanks were insulated with sprayed on cork material, using an asbestos contained mastic. McColman & Sons Demolition designed and built a special attachment to scrape off the asbestos. McColman & Sons Demolition then proceeded to dismantle the tanks using hydraulic steel shears.

Bow Valley Hospital Calgary Alberta

Located in close proximity of Calgary's city centre, McColman & Sons Demolition removed the hazardous goods by stripping the entire hospital down to its steel and concrete structure. Nine of the fourteen buildings were selectively prepared for placing 1,800 kg's. of explosives.

Sunday Oct. 4th 1998 the buildings were imploded leaving an astronomical mountain of debris to be removed. Approximately 7,00 loads of debris were removed from the site. The successful demolition was the result of the co-operation and thousands of hours of co-ordinated effort from all involved.

This project consisted of removal of 25 tanks and demolition of a chemical processing facility. Working in an operational plant where open flame could not be used was easily overcome using a hydraulic shear McColman & Sons Demolition demolished and processed the buildings on time and on budget.

Civic Block City Hall and Court House Edmonton

These buildings were demolished by McColman & Sons Demolition using a crane and ball, also an excavator with a 35 foot stick extension.
The demolition was completed 30 days ahead of schedule allowing the general contractor to pour the below grade foundations before winter.

This structure's exterior and interior was completely removed by McColman & Sons Demolition . Structural staircases and parkade were demolished.This project was extremely challenging, it was situated on one of Vancouver's busiest thoroughfares, located on West Georgia in the heart of Vancouver.

Built in the 1930's, this five lane structure consists of approximately 1400 tons of steel and approximately 2000 meters of concrete.

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan

Built in the 1950's this 200 feet high head frame structure was constructed with asbestos panel siding and heavy structural steel. This building was fallen by McColman & Sons Demolition using about 8 pounds of explosives. The entire project was completed with in 30 days. Time was very crucial as the plant had been closed during it's annual 30 day shut down.

Dismantling and removal of boiler, coal chutes, conveyers, piping, valves, instruments and smoke stacks. The equipment was then sold overseas. Two years later McColman & Sons Demolition returned to demolish, remove and re mediate the site

This project consisted of interior demolition of the 16th and 17th floors. Using a small roof mounted crane and specialty designed boxes, debris was lowered to ground level into containers for off site disposal. The construction was carried out in a very quick and sophisticated manner so as not to disturb the tenants on the other floors.
